Biman Bangladesh Airlines Places Largest-Ever Jet Order

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed a new order with Boeing for 14 aircraft. The deal covers eight 787-10s, two 787-9s and four 737 MAX aircraft. According to Boeing, the agreement represents the Bangladeshi flag carrier’s largest-ever jet order.

The order marks not only fleet growth for Biman, but also a new phase in its fleet strategy. The carrier has ordered the 787-10 for the first time, while also selecting the 737 MAX family for the first time in the narrowbody segment. Boeing said the 787-10s are expected to serve high-demand routes, particularly in the Middle East, while the 787-9s are planned for operations to Europe and North America. The 737 MAX aircraft are intended to strengthen Biman’s connectivity from Bangladesh to destinations in the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia.

Biman’s current fleet includes Boeing 787-8s, 787-9s and 737-800s. With the new order, the airline is preparing both to expand its existing widebody operations and to renew its single-aisle fleet. The agreement is reported to carry a list-price value of around $3.7 billion, with deliveries expected to take place in phases.
